It’s never too late to thank a police officer for risking their lives in the line of duty to keep the general public safe and sound. This past week (May 15th-21st) we celebrated National Police Week to honor those who have served and continue to serve in our local law enforcement efforts.
Since 1962, this special occasion has been celebrated as something similar to the Memorial Day we are all familiar with, including its undertones of solemn feelings. According to www.policeweek.org John F. Kennedy was the first to name this special event originally as National Peace Officers Memorial Day. For the past 54 years, the special day has continued to grow to continuously honor our police force and the amount of risk and work they put into every day to keep our communities safe.
